Poppy Murray: How Men Play a Key Role in Preventing VAWG

At our Our Safer City launch event, Poppy Murray, founder of the Just Be Lads campaign, delivered a presentation detailing the inspiration behind her initiative and the vital role men can play in preventing violence against women and girls (PVAWG).

Poppy shared the story of how Just Be Lads was born from the tragic case of Sarah Everard, whose death highlighted the urgent need for a cultural shift in how society addresses women’s safety. The campaign aims to engage men as allies, providing them with the tools and language needed to contribute positively to this critical issue.

Watch the video below for an introduction to this campaign by Poppy, and visit the Be Lads website for further details.

Additionally, you can also watch Poppy read her poem, “Not All Men,” Sarah Everard’s memorial. This powerful piece reflects on the importance of acknowledging the issue of violence against women while encouraging men to be part of the solution.
